I started working with Jane to support me in performing at a higher level in an acting assignment as an Assistant Deputy Minister. Coaching gave me an opportunity to reflect, think through and approach issues in a strategic and considered fashion as opposed to just reacting and focusing on the solution. Through coaching I realized I was up to the challenge and that my approach and instincts were correct. It gave me confidence. I learned how coach-led introspection can open a world of possibilities which can be translated into concrete actions and positive outcomes. Coaching is the best investment in myself I could have made. It is tailored to your needs and evolves in partnership with the coach.

I have been supervising staff for several years. Despite my experience, I felt I was missing some important tools to be a really effective manager. Specifically, I was looking to find strategies to improve my team’s performance in terms of creativity, productivity and motivation. Jane guided me through thinking about how best to improve my working relationships with my team. I was also able to improve my relationship with a challenging employee. I learned how to build on this person’s strengths as well as give constructive feedback. Through coaching with Jane, I saw how a small change in my own behaviour had positive impacts on my staff’s performance.

Coaching has offered me insight into strategies that I can apply to my work and work relationships as well as an ability to approach change and challenges with a higher degree of comfort and ability. It has helped me navigate complex issues and achieve results more effectively. It has enhanced my managerial skills so I can be a better coach to my staff. I did not know what to expect when I first started a coaching relationship. So I had modest expectations of coaching. The coaching experience with Jane has proven so valuable I wish I had begun coaching years ago. I am surprised at how many times in the course of my work that I think back to a coaching session, and that this helps guide my work. I have also learned that coaching is not a sign of weakness but rather a sign of strength. For coaching to work you have to allow it to.

I have learned a lot through my coaching sessions with Jane. What amazes me is that my behaviour has adjusted to what I have learned. I'm not ''explosive'' in my reactions anymore and contrary to what I believed could happen, I still care about doing a good job. It is as if I have found a balance.

I began coaching because I felt there was a lack of engagement between my department and senior management and I wanted to explore how I could help to bridge that gap. Since I started working with Jane, I have seen a marked increase in reciprocal engagement between my team and senior management and recognition by senior managers of the value of my department's work. Coaching has allowed me to look at challenges from a number of different perspectives, sometimes ones that are quite different from my past experience. I am able to apply a much more considered process to my work and to better present it in a way that will engage both my staff and my senior managers. I have been surprised at how easy it is to talk about many things that aren't normally discussed at work. Conversations can flow and even when they get "off topic", they can lead to new insights. The most remarkable thing for me is that, during the course of a conversation, it is possible to suddenly see something in an entirely different light and to experience an epiphany that completely alters the way I approach things.People should know that coaching is not about changing who you are but rather about changing your approach to problems and challenges. I would recommend, and have recommended, coaching to others. It has been a very positive, confidence and skill building experience for me.

A key challenge I faced was how to fully engage my team on improving the visitor experience at the museum. As a result of the coaching sessions, I am able to focus on the positive aspects of what the team is doing and find more productive ways to deal with employee issues and concerns. Coaching has increased my effectiveness by getting me to focus more and to properly prioritize what I am doing. I have been very pleasantly surprised with the coaching experience. When I started the coaching, I had talked to others and was not sure what I might encounter. I find it remarkable that the sessions with Jane go by so quickly and the discussions always lead to some new insight. It surprises me that I actually knew a lot of it but never thought of it as part of the solution. I think that the most important thing people should know is that the coach is a guide and not someone who can force you to do anything. Most of the ideas we come up with are things that I am already aware of but through coaching I am able to look at issues in a new light. I would certainly recommend coaching to others. I think that, with the services of a coach, one is better equipped to learn about all of the tools in one’s toolbox and how to use them to their best advantage.
